Gypsy Pistoleros - unleashed in six days!

Bad Reputation Records will be releasing Para Siempre on 24th January. Do yourself a favour and get a copy, it's terrific. It's a re-release of the briefly available last summer Wild, Beautiful, Damned which I reviewed at the time with the addition of a seriously awesome version of Livin'la vida loca (which I didn't think would work until I heard it) and new track Chicas peligrosa. Sleaze with a Latin flavour, definitely unique!

Rest in Sleaze by Crashdiet

Tuesday, January 15, 2008

The 2005 debut album from Swedish rockers Crashdiet is phenomenal. Sleazy, hard rocking, and full of attitude, it spawned four hits singles in Sweden and was slowly gaining the band attention elsewhere when singer Dave Lepard killed himself in 2006. The band returned in 2007 with new singer H. Olliver Twisted and a new album The Unattractive Revolution which features collaborations with Motley Crue's Mick Mars.

Rest In Sleaze fits right in the heart of the sleaze/glam resurrection which has been going on in the last few years, and which seems particularly prevalent in Sweden. What is notable is the frequent and very good use of vocal harmonies, the backing vocals giving the tracks a more anthemic feel than the straight lead would have achieved. Lepard's voice is strong, raw and has the right edge of punkish attitude.

Riot in Everyone is near perfection and you won't be able to stop yourself rocking along with it. With it's youth gone wild feel, pounding drums and scorching guitar solos, it's hard to see how this could have been improved upon. Instant classic. Queen Obscene/69 Shots is a personal favourite of mine. It's dirty, sleazy and Lepard's screeching chorus is infectious. Breakin' the Chainz will stay in your head, whether you want it to or not, and It's a Miracle manages the rare feat these days of adopting the power ballad style without becoming cheesy or overblown and pompous- a few other acts should take note, it can be done. Straight Outta Hell is another personal favourite - great hooks, spot on vocals, what's not to like?

There is not one bad track on this album. Any fan of the 80s LA glam scene should make sure they have this in their collection; anyone discovering sleaze/glam for the first time needs to hear these guys. Keep an eye on Sweden, glam fans. There's a lot of good stuff coming out of the north.
